Meta: Exploring Creativity - Edition 1
Hi there and welcome to the first edition of Meta - an exploration of creativity. Last year we launched the Blackbird Foundation to unleash creativity in as many young people as possible. We believe that creativity is the metaskill that makes it possible to learn just about anything. Every one of us is creative but unfortunately, our creativity isn’t nurtured and as a consequence, our full potential is often not realised.
If you want to learn more about the Blackbird Foundation and how we will achieve our mission, read our manifesto. I’ve started this newsletter to share some of our ideas around creativity, highlight interesting stories I come across, and over time build a community of people who believe, as I do, that creativity is the metaskill that makes eerything else possible.
Provocation: Creativity is the meta-skill
A meta-skill is a higher order skill that makes learning functional skills easier. For example; learning how to tell stories will mean you can pitch, go for job interviews, do stand up comedy and much more. Some other potential meta skills might include Resilience or Self Awareness. I believe Creativity sits on top of every other meta skill you could come up with. Through creativity, a person can become a life-long learner, comfortable with ambiguity, adaptive and so much more. Unlocking creativity makes everything else possible.
